CLASS OF 2013 – Andres Marrero, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc.
Andres Marrero known as “DRE” pledged and crossed Lambda Chapter, of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. during his sophomore year at the tender age of 17 in the Fall of 1999. Right upon crossing, he started training to become part of what was then NST for LUL. He became part of NST from years of 00’ to 02’. In 02’, Andres started transitioning to step master assisting the Captain then, Alfrin Vallejo, with unique and new intricate routines. Andres then took a break from the team to focus on his family, assuring that he was the right support that his family needed upon graduation, but still being a consistent Hermano in the background for the National Team. Between 03’ and 06’ he became the first regional director for LUL, expanding to two new schools within the Long Island region, Hofstra University and SUNY Old Westbury. His return in 06’ was driven by a need to see LUL back on the map as a force to be reckoned within the stroll game. He was determined to bring a new style of strolling combining the usual complexity and precision with a dramatic mix of culture and theatrics in the high energy and highly intense movement and stunts. His vision was to bring a New Age to the stroll game. Thus by Summer 2007, 8 hand picked members became the first edition of the New Age Stroll Team, more known as, NAS-T. For more than 6 years, NAS-T has performed and won through many states; despite the wins and losses, NAS-T has more been known to put on the most memorable performances. In 2009, he became step master of NST. Additionally, Andres and was of the founding representative of the Step/Stroll Coalition for which focuses on producing a show where the organizations determine the Rules/Regulations of the RISC. In 2010, with the stabilization of NAS-T, Dre decided to take the reigns of the LUL stepping game. With a former NAS-T member as his chosen captain, a new brand of LUL stepping was born, Rated L. Very much like NAS-T, Rated L evokes emotion and aims to leave audiences in awe, not just by the complex and precise stepping, but also by making you part of the story. As such, with the combination of NAST and Rated L, known as Rated NAST, a new LUL performance brand was emerged where Rated NAST is not just a show, it’s an experience.
